Cooper City meets federal drinking water standards. The figures below compare its reported results against the Environmental Working Group's health guidelines, which are set on health alone and are stricter than the federal limits, because those also weigh treatment cost and feasibility.

Haloacetic acids
Chlorination byproducts · 1.52 ppb measured, against a guideline of 0.06 ppb
What takes it out
EPA lists granular activated carbon as effective on disinfection byproduct precursors and synthetic organic compounds, and reverse osmosis on synthetic organic chemicals.

Radium
Radioactive elements · 0.50 pCi/L measured, against a guideline of 0.05 pCi/L
What takes it out
A softener removes radium. EPA lists radium under CATION exchange, the same process that removes hardness, alongside barium and strontium. A softener sized for the house handles it as a side effect of the job it was already bought to do. Reverse osmosis also removes radionuclides at the tap.
Between them, whole-house water filtration, under-sink reverse osmosis and water softening systems cover everything above. Cooper City has 1 further result above EWG guidelines, still within federal limits.
Cooper City runs its own utility, supplies part of Southwest Ranches, and treats its water differently from everyone else around it. All of it goes through membrane softening, which strips hardness before the water leaves the plant, and it is disinfected with chlorine rather than chloramine. Both of those change what a home here needs.
The plant has already done some of the work
Cooper City's own water quality report says 100% of the water is treated by membrane softening, which removes hardness, minerals, colour and organic matter before distribution. Most Broward utilities do not do this.
The standard Broward argument for a home softener assumes hard water arrives at the house. In Cooper City a good deal of the hardness has already been taken out at the plant by membrane softening, so the case for a softener is weaker and sometimes absent. A test at your tap settles it.
Disinfection is also different. Cooper City uses chlorine instead of chloramine. Standard activated carbon deals with free chlorine well, so the catalytic carbon argument that applies in Sunrise or Pembroke Pines does not carry the same weight here.
Rock Creek, Embassy Lakes, Monterra
Cooper City has the cleanest record of the nine cities we serve. Three contaminants above EWG health guidelines, none of them extreme, and no health-based violations on record since 2010. For some homes here, reverse osmosis for drinking water may be all that's needed.
What we install in Cooper City
- Whole-house water filtration Catalytic carbon at the main line, for the chloramine taste at every tap.
- Water softening systems Sized from the hardness measured at your tap, since no utility here reports it.
- Under-sink reverse osmosis Drinking water at the kitchen tap, with PFAS, nitrates and dissolved solids taken out.
- Well water purification Sediment, iron, sulfur, hardness and bacteria, treated in the right order.
- Free water testing A free, no-obligation test at your home, so the recommendation fits your water.

Cooper City water questions
Who provides water in Cooper City?
Cooper City Utilities runs the city's own system, and it also supplies part of neighboring Southwest Ranches.
Is Cooper City water hard?
The raw groundwater is, like all of Broward, but Cooper City membrane softens it before it reaches you, so what arrives is not what came out of the aquifer. Above 7 grains per gallon counts as hard. No utility publishes its finished figure, so we test at your tap for your own number.
