Radium
Radioactive elements · 1.10 pCi/L measured, against a guideline of 0.05 pCi/L
What takes it out
A softener removes radium. EPA lists radium under CATION exchange, the same process that removes hardness, alongside barium and strontium. A softener sized for the house handles it as a side effect of the job it was already bought to do. Reverse osmosis also removes radionuclides at the tap.
Between them, water softening systems and under-sink reverse osmosis cover everything above.
Covers Parkland Utilities, Inc. only. Other providers serve other parts of Parkland.
Parkland is the most fragmented water situation in our service area. The City states explicitly that it does not provide water service and has no oversight authority over any water utility, including Parkland Utilities, Inc., which is a private company unaffiliated with the City. Other providers serve other parts of town, and the equestrian acreage runs on private wells.
Who supplies Parkland's water
If you have a water quality question, City Hall is not the place to take it. Which provider serves your address determines who you call and which annual report, if any, applies to you.
The acreage runs on wells
Parkland's north and west edges include large equestrian and agricultural lots, and those properties commonly draw from private wells. The problems are the usual ones for west Broward wells: iron staining, hydrogen sulfide, hardness and possible bacteria.
With no utility and no annual report, testing is the only way to know what's in the water. On a property with barns and paddocks there's often a separate irrigation well too, which may need different treatment from the house supply.

The planned communities are on utility water and mostly newer, larger homes. These are private systems that publish no hardness figure at all, so it has to be measured.
